Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)
Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)
Radiofrequency ablation is a minimally invasive procedure designed to provide long-lasting relief from chronic spine pain caused by irritated facet joints.
Patients who experience significant relief from medial branch blocks are often excellent candidates for this treatment.

How Radiofrequency Ablation Works
During the procedure:
- A specialized needle is placed near the targeted nerve
- Controlled radiofrequency energy generates heat
- The heat disrupts the nerve’s ability to transmit pain signals
By interrupting these pain signals, RFA can significantly reduce chronic spine pain.
Benefits of Radiofrequency Ablation
- Long-lasting pain relief (typically 6–18 months or longer)
- Minimally invasive outpatient procedure
- Little downtime and quick recovery
- Reduced reliance on pain medications
- Improved mobility and daily activity
Radiofrequency ablation can be performed in the cervical, thoracic, or lumbar spine depending on the location of the pain.
